A MASTER'S TOUCH
BRAVO!
Miami, Florida – May 2, 2024: Managing Principal Amy Wieland-Carlson, MLA (we like the sound of that!) graduated in the top of her class from Florida International University’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts with a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture.
While at FIU, Wieland-Carlson was inducted into the Tau Sigma Delta, Sigma Xi Chapter, Honor Society for Architecture and the Allied Arts and was awarded a Merit Award by the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Based upon academic merit, she was also chosen to participate in an international urban planning initiative in Tarragona, Spain in the winter of 2024. In addition, while in school she also took and passed the Florida Section F test, one of the five tests required to become a licensed landscape architect in the State of Florida. While achieving these milestones, she also worked full-time at KWD as the Managing Principal and Senior Project Manager.
BEYOND GREEN
Her master’s thesis, Beyond Green, A Biophilic Design Approach to Healing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, focuses on the correlation between landscape architecture, biophilic design, and the key role both play in the healing of individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her thesis design is currently being used as a model approach for a future treatment center in New Mexico that will focus on healing modalities for those who have suffered employment related traumas.
Although these are incredible accomplishments, grass will not grow under her feet (we do love a good pun!). She is currently studying for all four sections of the LARE exam with the hopes of becoming a licensed landscape architect in the near future.
